Day One -- I Should Be Working...

My blogs are scattered around the internet like body parts at the annual Leper's Twist and Jive Convention.

But I'm becoming wary of Murdoch's MySpace and posting blogs on my own webspace feels a little like talking to myself. I wonder why I think that posting them here is any different?

The question mark is for my own benefit.

I'll scrawl a mental Post It to consider an answer later.

As always, I DJ'd on Friday night and continued in my Quest to Be Nice to Customers in 2008.

It is an effort. People who approach DJ booths, in general, are typically the exact kind of people who should not ever, on any account, be allowed to approach DJ booths.

Nevertheless, I have not been rude to anyone, so far, in 2008.

It's not easy, you know. I'm stood there by myself with tunes to find and mix, trying to juggle a mental playlist, working out when I'll need to pee next and how I'll manage to get a song into the playlist that is long enough for the pee and a quick fag outside.

But despite my best intentions, I did manage to piss someone off on Friday night. She had come over to the booth on a number of occasions and I had been the personification of politeness. Then she asked me for something I had no intention of playing, that was about a third of the speed of what was already on the decks, so I told her that I wouldn't play it and she had a little temper tantrum like my 5 year old does when she doesn't get what she wants.

"I'm a DJ," she said with a quivering bottom lip. "You're meant to play what people want."

If you're a wedding DJ, perhaps.

If you come to one of my nights, I choose the music. It's what I've been paid to do every Friday night for the last 10 years.

My friend, Tony, who witnessed the altercation didn't really offer me any support after she melted back into the [dancing] throng.

"She was really hot," he said.

I hadn't even noticed.

So, tonight's show is full... here's the blurb:
